Before and After

A quick shot of the new floors! I haven't had a chance to take pictures of the whole house, but we love the way they turned out! I also painted the red room because I thought it would be too dark with the dark wood floors. Now I just have to finish cleaning the dusty house, put the nursery together, and put back the china, lamps, books, etc.

After!

4th of July

Phil's parents put us up over the weekend while we were still wandering nomads, and we spent the 4th with them and Phil's sister Tracy and her husband Blake. Jim has become quite the brisket smoker, and we enjoyed some really good food. It was nice to relax and lay around for most of the weekend after a week of camp (my junior league project) and painting, and running around making sure everything was ready for the floor guys.

Free Guac at Chipotle

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Chipotle isn't handing out free guacamole. I think you just have to be sad faced and pregnant to get a free handout there right now! Last night Phil and I went to pick up the chair for the nursery. The expensive chair. That I had to have. That I specified I want these arms, with this cushion, and the back just so, and the pattern here, and the solid there, and extra height and width for the giant Phil and so on. Well, the chair really does look great, but two little things were lost in translation. It really isn't a big deal in the end, and a little slipcover is going to correct the ottoman, and the chair is still beautiful just the way it is. But I was still a little upset that it wasn't perfect, and Phil was probably even more upset that it wasn't perfect, and when he gets stressed out, it stresses me out. You get the picture. So we are still wandering nomads due to our floors and have no food at our house and therefore made a stop at Chipotle for dinner. I look over at Phil and ask if he wants to split guac. He says "no, just go without it." Umm, it is an extra $1.75 for guac, raising the price of your reasonable $5.75 or so burrito to almost $8.00, so I see his point. But hello, I am pregnant, homeless, have an empty nursery, a not quite so perfect nursery chair in the back of the truck, and I just wanted some guacamole. So they finish rolling up my guacless burrito, I grab some napkins, and go right to the locked truck to stare at my nomadic dog through the window and wait for Phil and guard the not quite so perfect chair. He comes out and hands me the bag, and there is guac in it. That of course, made me feel a little guilty. I threw a little fit, and he gives in and asks for a side of guac for me. Awwww. No, not exactly how it went down my friends. Apparently, awesome Chipotle girl can't stand to see poor sad 35 week pregnant girl not get her guac, and throws it in, to which Phil says something like "we didn't order it" and she says something like "no, please take it" and in her head is probably thinking something like "I am saving you a huge headache man." I didn't know that my guardian angel works at Chipotle in Plano, but I do now!

Breakfast at Wimbledon

Phil and I have a little tradition (if you can call something that you do 2 years in a row a tradition) of staying home on Sunday morning of the men's Wimbledon finals, making a good breakfast (or having your father in law make it for you) and watching the match. Last year we were rooting for our boy Roger Federer, and unfortunately he lost to the slimy Spaniard Rafael Nadal. This year Roger was once again in the finals, and so was Andy Roddick. We really thought poor Andy didn't stand much of a chance against Roger, who had an 18-2 record against our fellow American going into the match. But Andy kicked off with aces right and left, and won the first set, and we were very impressed. You couldn't help but root for the guy. I thought he might pull it off, until halfway through when Phil hit the wrong button on the tivo and there was Roger, standing with the trophy and a very triumphant smile on his face. Yes, somehow the tivo went straight to the end of the recording. I was really nice about it too. I think I said something to Phil like "you ruined Breakfast at Wimbledon!" while giving him my best evil eye. I did my best to continue watching, but it was a little sad knowing that all of Andy's winning games and sets would end in a loss. So, hats off to Roger Federer on his big win, and here's to next year's Breakfast at Wimbledon and an improvement in remote handling skills by my darling husband! I know, I know, it was all the tivo's fault...

Buh-Bye!

Goodbye old gross and disgusting carpet. Goodbye cocoa powder stains (thanks dogs, I thought you were going to die and ruin our carpet all in one night. Thank goodness peroxide makes dogs puke their guts out.) Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye!

T -1 - Furniture is out

Day 1 - No more carpet, plywood being laid

Day 2 - Plywood nailed down

No real point to this picture other than to show off my new lens!

What's Your Flavor?

I will probably be disowned by my father in law for writing this, but there is no better ice cream (to me) than Haagen Dazs Coffee ice cream. If you have never tried the creamy goodness that is Haagen Dazs, I highly encourage you to. So we all know that ice cream isn't exactly healthy for you, but I love that when you read the ingredients you know exactly what each and every one of them is, and could purchase them all for yourself at the grocery store. No high fructose corn syrup or such and such gum or stabilizer or other randomness. Just milk, cream, sugar, egg yolk and coffee. I try not to indulge too often, but every now and then I'll stash a pint in the back of the freezer, nice and safe and hidden from Phil. ;)

DC and Virginia

Two weeks ago we took a trip to Washington DC and then down to Virginia to visit my grandparents in Williamsburg and do some historical site seeing. Wow. The amount of walking we did sure took it's toll on me! In spite of that, we had a really good time getting away and having a few days to ourselves in our nation's capital, enjoying the sites and the history of the city and our country. My grandmother enjoyed playing tour guide for us, and we spent a day in each city of the "historic triangle", Yorktown, Jamestown and Williamsburg. She also had fun introducing me to her friends and patting my belly while saying "this is my first great grandchild right here." Lol. I also discovered a new love evil in Moose Track's ice cream. Umm, delicious! Wish I had some right now. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it!

The light streaming in at the National Museum of the American Indian was a perfect rainbow in one spot. So I made Phil pose!
